Project Overview

Detailed description of our project goals and methodology

On January 4, 2022, Mai Aisha Trust (MAT) officially opened Ngala Primary School, constructed in Namakanga village, Traditional Authority Mponda, with support from the World Care Foundation. The school began with classes for Standard 1 to 4, serving an initial enrollment of 325 pupils taught by six teachers. MAT equipped the school with 325 desks for pupils, six desks for teachers, stationery, and water drums. The comprehensive facilities include five classroom blocks for Standards 1-8, an administration block, a Masjid, a MAM House, a Madrassah block, and two boreholes that also serve the surrounding community.

Challenges We Addressed

The problems our community faced before intervention

  • High school dropout rates as children had to cover long distances to attend school.
  • Unemployed graduated teachers in the community.
  • Surrounding community members had to walk long distances to access clean water.
  • Children were starting school at a late age because they could not manage the long distance.

Our Solutions & Approach

Strategic interventions and methodologies implemented

  • Constructed a new primary school with five classroom blocks, an administration block, and other essential facilities.
  • Installed two boreholes on the school premises.
  • Hired both government-assigned and volunteer teachers.

Results & Impact

Measurable outcomes and lasting community benefits

  • The number of school dropouts has been reduced.
  • Employment opportunities were created for qualified teachers.
  • Children are now able to start school at an appropriate age.
  • Community members no longer have to walk long distances to fetch water.
