Understanding that transportation services are poor, especially in rural areas due to lack of road infrastructure, which makes it difficult for vehicles to access such areas, Mai Aisha Trust, with support from Nasihah donors, distributed 100 bicycles on October 2, 2023, to farmers, chiefs, students, police, and hospital employees in Number One village, Thyolo district. These bicycles will assist recipients in transporting people and various goods within the district.
Problems Faced Before Bicycle Distribution
- In rural areas, most service providers are located far from where people reside, making it a significant challenge for people to walk on foot to access these services
- Workers such as police officers and hospital employees were unable to arrive at work on time due to transportation challenges
- Students were walking long distances, which caused them to arrive at school already tired and unable to be active in class
Solutions This Bicycle Distribution Has Brought
- It has eased mobility challenges among vulnerable groups
- It has improved the socioeconomic status of rural communities through bicycle taxi businesses
This distribution demonstrates our commitment to improving transportation access and economic opportunities in rural communities.
