Project Overview

Detailed description of our project goals and methodology

The Namaning’a Irrigation Scheme was implemented by Mai Aisha Trust with funding from Peace Giving International and was completed in December 2019. Located in Namaning’a village, Traditional Authority Bwananyambi, Mangochi District, this project supports 20 farmers, including 8 men and 12 women. The introduction of a motorized irrigation system has replaced inefficient manual methods like using buckets, allowing for the cultivation of larger land areas and reducing soil erosion. The community now grows maize, vegetables, and tomatoes more productively.

Challenges We Addressed

The problems our community faced before intervention

  • The use of earth canals for irrigation was promoting soil erosion.
  • Farmers were using buckets to carry water for irrigation, which limited their ability to cultivate large pieces of land.

Our Solutions & Approach

Strategic interventions and methodologies implemented

  • A motorized irrigation system was installed to improve efficiency and reduce soil erosion.

Results & Impact

Measurable outcomes and lasting community benefits

  • Farmers are now able to cultivate larger areas of land due to the efficient irrigation system.
  • The new system has significantly reduced soil erosion.
