Project Overview

Detailed description of our project goals and methodology

The Mgwirizano Irrigation Scheme was implemented by Mai Aisha Trust with funding from Peace Giving International and completed in December 2019. Located in Ntundu village, Traditional Authority Bwananyambi, Mangochi District, the project supports 20 farmers, including 13 men and 7 women. The introduction of a motorized irrigation system replaced less efficient methods, allowing for better land utilization and reduced soil erosion. Farmers now cultivate crops such as tomatoes, vegetables, and maize, leading to higher yields and enhanced income for the community.

Challenges We Addressed

The problems our community faced before intervention

  • Farmers experienced low crop yields and low income.
  • The use of earth canals for irrigation contributed to soil erosion.

Our Solutions & Approach

Strategic interventions and methodologies implemented

  • A motorized irrigation system was installed to improve water distribution.

Results & Impact

Measurable outcomes and lasting community benefits

  • The use of a motorized irrigation system has minimized soil erosion.
  • Farmers are now able to cultivate larger areas of land, resulting in higher yields and increased income.
