Project Overview

Detailed description of our project goals and methodology

In response to the increasing frequency and intensity of climate-related disasters in Malawi, Drop of Compassion (DoC) partnered with Mai Aisha Trust to transition rural communities from emergency relief to long-term development. Between June and September 2017, this partnership resulted in the construction of 25 secure houses for vulnerable families. The project prioritized female-headed households, which often experience higher rates of poverty, to address the primary factors contributing to household vulnerability and provide stable, lasting shelter.

Challenges We Addressed

The problems our community faced before intervention

  • Vulnerable families, particularly female-headed households, lacked safe and secure housing.
  • Communities were dependent on emergency and relief assistance following disasters.

Our Solutions & Approach

Strategic interventions and methodologies implemented

  • Constructed 25 durable houses for vulnerable families.
  • Prioritized assistance for female-headed households to reduce poverty and improve stability.
