Nkumba Nyenyezi Irrigation Scheme

Nkumba Nyenyezi Irrigation Scheme project was implemented by Mai Aisha Trust and funded by Drop Of Compassion. The scheme is located in Mangochi in Issa village GVH Chikamba T/A Bwananyambi Masuku. The scheme has 34 farming family members of which 12 are male and 22 are females. The irrigation scheme is 2.5 hacters big. The scheme project is now completed and crops like vegetables, maize and tomatoes are now grown there.

PROBLEMS BEFORE DONOR SUPPORT
The following were the problems faced:

• •  Farmers used pails to irrigate crops
  •  They failed to cultivate large piece of land
  • They sometimes used hired pump
  •  They used earth canals which promoted soil erosion
  •  They harvested low yield hence low income

HOW THE PROJECT HAS CHANGED THINGS

• Irrigating crops will be easy with the water pump and concrete canals
• Large land will be used and therefore high yields will be realised
• The community will be food secured and economically enhanced
