Project Overview

Detailed description of our project goals and methodology

Following heavy rains and severe flooding that displaced over 750,000 people in southern Malawi, Mai Aisha Trust, with support from Ummah Welfare, launched a housing project to provide shelter for the most vulnerable. The floods left thousands, including over 14,000 in Mangochi district alone, living in temporary shelters. In response, this project focused on building homes for those affected, particularly the poor, elderly, widows, orphans, and persons with disabilities. In September 2019, 22 new houses were completed and handed over to beneficiaries in Mikundi and Namaning’a villages in Traditional Authority Bwananyambi, Mangochi, with 11 houses built in each village. This initiative provided families with safe, durable homes, offering relief from the hardship of displacement.
