Due to erratic rainfall patterns, Malawi always suffers adverse effects from food insecurity. In order to mitigate the situation there is need to involve local farmers in small scale irrigation farming which will in turn mobilize communities to ensure food security at household level and generate income through irrigation farming, such as vegetable production, fish farming and stream rehabilitation to avoid soil erosion. The development of such schemes increases production cycle of not less than three times a year. This result in continuous availability of food and cash to the villagers and improve their livelihoods security
With financial support from Unleashing Potential and Drop of Compassion, Mai Aisha Trust is implementing its projects in five irrigation sites namely,
Mtemaumo, Mlanga, Kumwandika, Nasundu and Nansembe.
